MASSAGE & BODYWORK

Heidi performing Thai massage in Austin TX

We believe in the power of touch, in human connection, and in the energy exchange between bodies through massage therapy.

We treat clients with a combination of deep tissue massage, sports massage, and Thai massage. We incorporate a variety of tools as needed. We also regularly work with pregnant and postpartum individuals for comfort, relaxation, and healing.

BODYWORK APPROACH

  • In deep tissue sessions, I aim to address pain, by using a range of techniques (e.g. compressions, trigger point therapy, fascial release, cupping, etc.). It may not be appropriate for someone looking for a lighter, gentler massage. That said, deep pressure does not equal pain, and pain does not equal progress. You will be asked to breathe deeply, communicate, and provide feedback during these sessions.

  • In sports massage, the primary focus is to prepare for or aid in recovery from an event or intense exercise. Ongoing sports massage is used as a tool for maintenance and self-care for those training regularly, through which we can address issues as they arise, lessening the chances for injury and/or overuse issues.

  • When working with birthing people, I aim to encourage relaxation through broad compression of achy muscles (avoiding specific pressure points) and careful mobilization (hello, relaxin!). Your body is constantly changing and adjusting to make room for a growing baby, and that can take a toll on your muscles, movement patterns, and overall posture.

For those in the immediate postpartum period, the goal is relaxation for gentle healing. Gentle abdominal massage and scar mobilization may be included, as desired, during any postpartum appointment.

These sessions are available on the mat (for more wiggle room and better angles) or on the table.

  • As a Thai American, this modality holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been fortunate to receive traditional Thai massage throughout my life from extended family and friends. I have learned the traditional, general sequence as well as ways to experiment and “off-road” using Thai principles and positioning.

Thai massage often does not fixate on any particular issues or areas of the body. These are full body sessions, comprised of stretching, mobilization, and deep compressions using the hands, elbows, knees, and feet. For me, as the therapist, the session feels quite meditative — almost akin to a dance. For the client, the end result is similar to having completed a yoga class — refreshed, relaxed, and more mobile.

  • "Heidi is the best intuitive and talented massage therapist that I have ever worked with. That is saying a lot because I have worked with dozens! Her ability to tune in to the client and release stuck energy, as well as her knowledge of biology and skeletal structure, place her in a league of her own. I wholeheartedly recommend Heidi’s work to anyone who is wanting the utmost highest performance and trustworthiness when it comes to massage therapy."

  • "I used to get work done only when I had a problem arise. I would spend a couple of weeks trying to fix the problem. During that time, I would have to scale and/or adjust my workouts. Needless to say, I would lose progress during those times. Since I started getting work done regularly, I rarely ever have an issue anymore. My progress is continuous and my workouts seem easier overall. The most noticeable improvement is how my body feels in my daily life. I would highly recommend signing up for a membership. "

  • "I have been active my entire life. And it seems the older I get, the more I want to do. And though I always wanted to get tissue work (massage, but not the gentle kind, the kind that consists of thumbs that find those adhesions and make muscles right), I was not motivated until it was made convenient – an added charge to my automatic gym membership. Sometimes I go in knowing my neck/epicondyles/calves/hip are bothering me. Sometimes, because I work at my mobility, I feel great, and yet, Heidi can find things that need working out in a way and at a level I would not be capable of, even with my PVC pipe and all my various things I have for getting at things that are tight/painful. Plus, it’s (for me) an hour and a half of downtime. I cannot express in words how beneficial getting Heidi’s thumbs and elbows to work on you is, but trust me: this maintenance work is vital to being able to show up day after day and consistently feel well and move well."

  • "Heidi is truly the best of the best, and I don’t say that lightly. She is intuitive, listens to your body, and adjusts to your needs. She is insanely knowledgeable, and always down to learn more to better herself and her clients. Heidi’s ability to be open-minded is felt throughout the training process, and she shifts and navigates through each individual's needs and healing, while pushing you on technique and progress in a positive light. The way she cues in session, her ability to explain the progressions, and her specific attention to technique never fails to make for a great session."

Bodywork Details

We’ve significantly simplified the processes and details around bodywork:

  • All sessions are 55 minutes long and are priced at a flat rate of $100 (discounts given to fellow bodyworkers only). Tipping is always appreciated but certainly not necessary.

  • All sessions take place within the front office area of CrossFit Austin in a private area. Clients will be fully professionally draped at all times, but this is not a spa environment. Please consider the setting (a gym) when booking your appointment, as we may encounter extra noise disturbances.

  • We require all clients to complete a waiver upon their first appointment, and a health history/intake form for bodywork must be completed annually.

  • There is no credit card or payment required to book, but as we are a small business, clients who “no-call, no-show” appointments will be unable to book further appointments.

  • Gift cards and certificates are no longer being offered through the website. Please contact us directly for assistance.
